Specializing in knitwear, Jessica’s practice focuses on combining yarn with different stretch qualities to develop unexpected silhouettes. Her clever fabric development enables her knitwear to have both tension and stretch across the body while also creating volumes. This fusion of tension and volume is only revealed when placed on the body. Distorted images become clear and text is revealed as the knitwear stretches, enabling an intimate relationship between knitwear and the body.
Jessica is passionate about the possibility for knitwear to inform silhouette development across all garment categories. She views knitwear as the foundation of a garment, a self created fabric that acts as a canvas for print, embellishment and other materials.
Her experimental approach to knitwear development is refreshing as she fearlessly mixes yarn qualities, woven fabrics, coatings, colours and textures. Her experimental knitwear is elevated through her methodical design development, giving priority to details and knit construction.
Jessica Guzman is a graduating MFA student of the Fashion Design and Society program at Parsons School of Design. Before moving to New York, she completed her combined bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design and International Studies at the University of Technology of Sydney.
